We exist to drive growth

Fast-growing companies need both expert legal service and strategic business advice. We created Tandem so that business and legal minds could work together like gears on a bicycle, providing integrated service that is far greater than the sum of its parts.

“We will challenge the way
law is practiced”

- Michael McDevitt, CEO

WE SUCCEED by being selective

We combine the best minds from law and business to work with clients that we can help the most: innovative young companies that have booked revenue and are looking to scale up their business.

Michael
McDevitt : Co-Founder & CEO

Michael
McDevitt

Co-Founder & CEO

I created Tandem to help companies grow. Specifically, companies that are led by authentic, self-aware, risk-taking CEOs. That is what I have always striven to be, and I enjoy working with like-valued individuals. Before Tandem, I was the CEO of a company that experienced tremendous growth, which I loved. I was also client to big law firms; I didn’t love that part. It was those past successes and also frustrations, along with a desire to teach, that inspired me to create Tandem: a place where success means helping others succeed. It’s a pretty simple concept so I won’t overcomplicate it.

Randy
Price : Co-Founder & Managing Partner

Price

Co-Founder & Managing Partner

I created Tandem so that I could help cool, young companies. I spent nearly a decade defending some of the world’s largest companies in antitrust and IP cases, learning from some of the top litigators at Latham & Watkins LLP. The training was great and the hundred-hour weeks were killer, but the coffee was crap so I left. I started helping friends by defending their companies in lawsuits, and I found that lawyerin’ is infinitely more fun when my clients are my friends, and I can use my legal skill-set to protect them and help them shine. So I play defense, help the star players stay out of trouble, and make sure the big ugly on the other team knows I’m here.

Sue
Wang : Partner

Sue
Wang

Partner

Sue started her career as an international finance attorney at Latham & Watkins LLP in both DC and Hong Kong. Buying and selling companies was fun, but Sue decided to make a change “because of Fight Club.” These days, Sue loves to work directly with CEOs. She drives every deal from start to finish. On a day to day basis, she negotiates major business-to-business contracts, identifies legal risks, and helps resolve shareholder and investor issues in a positive way. Before she became a lawyer, Sue fell in love with clean technology while developing wind energy in Morocco. If you want to grab a drink with Sue, she’s always happy to geek out over renewable energy, public transit, or science fiction.

Mike
Hitsky : Partner

Mike
Hitsky

Partner

Hitsky’s passion for business was apparent at a young age; he just wasn’t very good at selling widgets door-to-door.

After getting a business degree, he worked as a management consultant for F500s. When he decided that he also wanted to solve their legal problems, he headed to law school. And after years of defending big guys with Latham & Watkins LLP, he joined Tandem to help growth companies stay focused on selling things cooler than widgets by limiting their legal risks.

Mike helps clients with litigation and corporate governance. He also moonlights at Georgetown Law, teaching future Tandem attorneys about the joys of Electronic Discovery.

James
Bickley : COO

James
Bickley

COO

James has already started, run, and sold his own business, so one thing we know is that he’s not impressed. Well, maybe a little: “With 14 years' experience running a business, I've met and learned from some amazing people. Along the way I learned that the most undervalued skill is the ability to listen, which provides opportunity. Opportunity to learn from people who are smarter than me.” I might’ve ended that quote early, but only to point out that James has an unmatched entrepreneurial spirit.

James is the COO, focusing on operational efficiency, business development, and recruiting. He’s also our E-Discovery expert, providing consulting services and assisting the attorney-team with data collections and ESI planning.

Tracey
Watson : Director of Legal Services

Tracey
Watson

Director of Legal Services

Tracey rocks and is always right. She has 13 years’ experience, first as a senior paralegal at Latham & Watkins LLP, then in-house at a F500. After four years of going through the motions, she was ready for something new, exciting and different, and the phone rang at the perfect time.

At Tandem, Tracey basically runs the show and makes sure that we actually get things done. If she's not in the office, you'll likely find her cooking, watching sports (especially football, Go Hokies), or at the gym. She also serves on the board for a scholarship foundation in memory of a close childhood friend. Sitting still is not an option for Tracey. And she rocks.
